The following two graphs show the Regional Curtailment as a Daily Energy - South Australia is the yellow line. The first graph is for the Year to 05 Feb 2020 and the second graph is the Year to 05 Feb 2019.
[To gain an understanding of how Curtailment has trended in the past, you can see at the bottom of this page, the Years to 05 Feb 2018, 05 Feb 2017, 05 Feb 2016 and 05 Feb 2015. The first noticeable daily curtailed SA energy followed the System Black event on 29 Sep 2016.]
The following graphs show specific days and the Regional Curtailment and the Energy Mix / Price for the same day. Thu 09 Sep 2020 is the day of highest curtailed energy (10,559 MWh). The graphs for Tue 04 Feb 2020, represent the day of high curtailment (4,948 MWh ranking the 17th highest day for the year to 05 Feb 2020) during the period of the SA Regions separation from Vic Region due to an extended line outage.
We can see there is a requirement for more Gas generation during the SA separation. AEMO published a market notice on Wed 05 Feb 2020 clarifying the New synchronous generator combinations for the SA + APD + Mortlake Island for system strength and frequency control.
The following graphs show SA daily curtailment for other periods of the year.
